Turmoil at top Mornington pinot producer

IN EARLY 2002 I sat at a table in the Stonier cellar door on the Mornington Peninsula with the winery’s then chief winemaker, Tod Dexter. The Stonier winery, established in 1978 by ex book publisher Brian Stonier, had recently been bought by brewer Lion Nathan and as we tasted through a mini vertical of Stonier’s reserve pinot noir, an obvious question prevailed.
